Chan Master Zhida's Verses on Mind and Object says:
When the object is established, the mind immediately exists;
Without the object, the mind does not arise.
If you tether the mind to the object,
Both mind and object become blind.
When object and mind each abide in their own place,
The natures of mind and object are constantly pure.
Awakened to the object, the mind does not arise;
Deluded about the mind, one moves along with the object.
If you are deluded about the mind and treat it as an object,
Mind and object fall into wild confusion.
Awakened to the object, the mind is fundamentally pure;
Knowing the mind, the object is inherently clear.
Knowing the mind, there is no object-nature;
Comprehending the object, the mind has no form.
The object is empty, the mind is utterly still;
The mind illuminates, the object is cool and clear.
