The Venerable Dushun's Contemplation of True Emptiness Gathering Objects to Return to Mind says: 'It means that all phenomena existing in the three realms are only the one mind. Outside the mind, not a single phenomenon can be apprehended; hence it is called "returning to the mind." It means that all discriminations arise solely from one's own mind; there has never been an object outside the mind that could serve as a condition for the mind. Why is this? Because when the mind does not arise, external objects are fundamentally empty. The treatise says: "Because it is based on representation-only, objects fundamentally have no substance, and the meaning of true emptiness is established. Because dust-objects do not exist, the fundamental consciousness does not arise." From this it is known that it is due to the mind that objects manifest, and due to objects that the mind is revealed. The mind does not reach the object, and the object does not enter the mind. Constantly practicing this contemplation, wisdom becomes exceedingly deep.'
