The Bodhicittotpādaśāstra states: "The past has already ceased; the future has not yet arrived; the present does not abide. Although one contemplates in this way the production, cessation, dispersion, and destruction of the mind and mental factors, one constantly never abandons gathering roots of good to aid the dharmas of bodhi. This is called the bodhisattva's skillful means of contemplating the three times."
