問：「何不一法頓悟，萬行自圓。而迂迴漸徑，勤勞小善乎？禪宗一念不生，一塵不現；若爭馳焰水、競執空華，以幻修幻，終無得理。」

Question: "Why not attain sudden awakening to the single Dharma, whereupon the myriad practices are naturally perfected, instead of circuitously following a gradual path and toiling over petty good deeds? In the Chan school, not a single thought arises, and not a single speck of dust appears. If one races after mirage-water or contends to grasp sky-flowers, using illusions to cultivate illusions, there is ultimately no principle to be attained."
