2.73

「或興崇三寶，廣扇慈風；或牆塹釋門，威力外護。遂令正法久住，佛道長隆。外感則雨順風調，家寧國泰；內報則道生垢滅，果滿因圓。能遵付囑之恩，不失菩提之記。或釋其拘繫，放人出家；或廣度僧尼，紹隆佛種。開出離之道，施引接之門。格量勝因，群經具讚。《出家功德經》云：『若放男女、奴婢、人民出家，功德無量。』《本緣經》云：『以一日一夜出家故，二十劫不墮三惡道。』《僧祇律》云：『以一日一夜出家，修梵行者，離六百六千六十歲三塗苦。』乃至醉中剃髮；戲裡披衣，一曏時間，當期道果。何況割慈捨愛，具足正因，成菩薩僧，福何邊際？

"Or raising and venerating the Three Jewels, broadly fanning the compassionate wind; or serving as a rampart and moat for the Śākya gate, outwardly protecting it with mighty power. This causes the saddharma to abide long and the Buddha path to flourish constantly. Externally, it brings favorable rain and seasoned wind, peaceful homes and a prosperous nation; internally, it generates the path, extinguishes defilements, fulfills the fruit, and completes the cause. One can honor the grace of the entrustment and not lose the prophecy of bodhi. Or releasing those in confinement, allowing people to take pravrajyā; or widely ordaining monks and nuns, carrying on and magnifying the buddha-seed. Opening the way of transcendence, extending the gate of welcoming and guiding. In assessing its supreme causes, the multitude of sūtras praise it completely. The Chujia gongde jing says: 'If one permits men, women, slaves, maids, and common people to undertake pravrajyā, the merit is immeasurable.' The Benyuan jing says: 'By virtue of undertaking pravrajyā for one day and one night, for twenty kalpas one does not fall into the three evil destinies.' The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya says: 'By undertaking pravrajyā for one day and one night and cultivating brahmacarya, one is separated from the suffering of the three wretched destinies for six thousand and sixty-six years.' Even shaving the head while drunk or donning the robe in play—even for a brief moment—will yield the expected fruit of the path. How much more so when severing affection and giving up attachment, being fully endowed with the correct cause, and becoming a bodhisattva monk: how could such merit have any boundary?"
