1.42

白雲謂功輔曰。昔翠巖真點胸。耽味禪觀。以口舌辯利呵罵諸方。未有可其意者。而大法實不明了。一日金鑾善侍者。見而笑曰。師兄參禪雖多而不妙悟。可謂癡禪矣（白雲夜話）。

Baiyun said to Gongfu, “In the past, Cuiyan Zhen Pointing-Breast was deeply absorbed in the taste of Chan contemplation. Using his sharp tongue and eloquence, he berated and scolded all the various quarters, and no one ever satisfied his mind; yet the Great Dharma was truly not clear to him. One day Attendant Shan of Jinluan saw him, laughed, and said, ‘Senior brother, though you have practiced Chan much, you have no wondrous awakening. You may truly be called an idiot Chan practitioner!’” (Baiyun Night Talks)
