2.33

圓悟曰。先師言。做長老有道德感人者。有勢力服人者。猶如鸞鳳之飛百禽愛之。虎狼之行百獸畏之。其感服則一。其品類固霄壤矣。（贅疣集）。

Yuanwu said, "My late master said: among those who serve as elders, there are those who move people with the Way and virtue, and there are those who subdue people with power and force. It is like the flight of the phoenix, which all birds love, and the prowl of tigers and wolves, which all beasts fear. Their moving and subduing may appear the same, but their kinds are as far apart as heaven and earth." (*Zhuiyou ji*)
