2.36

圓悟謂元布袋曰。凡稱長老之職助宣佛化。常思以利濟為心。行之而無矜。則所及者廣所濟者眾。然一有矜己逞能之心。則僥倖之念起。而不肖之心生矣（雙林石刻）。

Yuanwu said to Yuan Budai, "Whenever one assumes the office of elder to assist in proclaiming the Buddha's transformation, one must constantly think of taking benefiting and aiding [others] as one's mind. If one practices this without boastfulness, then those reached will be broad and those aided will be numerous. But once there is a mind of boasting of oneself and flaunting one's abilities, then thoughts of opportunistic gain arise, and an unworthy mind is born." (*Stone Inscription of Shuanglin*)
