妙喜曰。節儉放下乃修身之基入道之要。歷觀古人鮮有不節儉放下者。年來衲子遊荊楚買毛褥。過浙右求紡絲。得不愧古人乎。

Miaoxi said: “Frugality and letting go are the foundation of cultivating oneself and the essential key to entering the Way. Observing the ancients throughout history, rarely was there anyone who was not frugal and did not let go. In recent years, monastics travel through Jing and Chu to buy woolen rugs, and pass through western Zhejiang to seek spun silk; can they not feel ashamed before the ancients?”
