3.69

萬菴曰。比見衲子。好執偏見不通物情。輕信難迴愛人佞己。順之則美逆之則疎。縱有一知半解。返被此等惡習所蔽至白首而無成者多矣（已上並見智林集）。

Wan'an said: “Lately I have seen that patch-robed monks love clinging to partial views and do not understand worldly sentiments; they are credulous, obstinate, and love those who flatter them. When followed they are pleased, but when opposed they become distant. Even if they possess a half-baked understanding, they are instead obscured by such bad habits, and many reach white hair without accomplishment (all the above are seen in the Zhilin ji).”
