應菴華和尚住明果。雪堂未嘗一日不過從。間有竊議者。雪堂曰。華姪為人不悅利近名。不先譽後毀。不阿容苟合。不佞色巧言。加以見道明白去住翛然。衲子中難得。予固重之（且菴逸事）。

When Master Ying'an Hua resided at Mingguo, not a day passed without Xuetang visiting him. Some people privately discussed this. Xuetang said: "Nephew Hua as a person does not take pleasure in profit or approach fame; he does not praise beforehand and slander afterward; he does not flatter to curry favor or compromise unprincipledly; he does not use pleasing countenances or artful words. In addition, his seeing of the Way is clear, and his leaving or staying is carefree and detached. Such a one is rare among patch-robed monks; I naturally esteem him."
