Xuetang said: "When Gao'an resided at Yunju, Puyun Yuan served as the head monk, Yicai Seng as the monastic scribe, Baiyang Shun as the director of the canon, Tong Wutou as the guest master, Xian Zhenmu as the karmadāna, Nephew Hua as the assistant director, and Nephew Yong as the prior. All of them possessed virtue and accomplishment. Nephew Yong was usually frugal and restrained, never burning the lamp oil of the permanent property of the saṃgha. Nephew Hua teased him on account of this, saying: 'When you become an elder in the future, your nostrils must be upright to succeed; how can you consider this to be achievement?' Nephew Yong did not reply. Although Nephew Yong treated himself frugally, he was very generous to others; receiving those who came from the four directions, he showed not the slightest trace of weariness. Gao'an saw this one day and said: 'The prior's intention is indeed rare, but you must still look after the permanent property of the saṃgha and not let it be neglected.' Nephew Yong said: 'On my part, a loss is a minor fault; but on the Master's part, honoring worthies and welcoming scholars with an ocean's capacity and a mountain's tolerance, without inquiring into minor details, is truly great virtue.' Gao'an simply smiled. Therefore, the monastic groves gave him the name "Yong of the Big Bowl."'"
