4.45

佛誡羅睺羅頌云。十方世界諸眾生。念念已證善逝果。彼既丈夫我亦爾。何得自輕而退屈。六凡四聖同此一性。彼既如是我何不然。直須內外資熏一生取辦。更若悠悠過日。是誰之咎。古德云。此身不向今生度。更向何生度此身。

A verse of the Buddha's admonition to Rāhula says: 'Sentient beings in the worlds of the ten directions have thought after thought already realized the fruit of the Sugata. Since he is a great person and I am also one, how could I belittle myself and draw back in discouragement?' The six types of ordinary beings and the four classes of noble ones share this single nature. Since he is like that, why shouldn't I be as well? One must directly rely on internal and external perfuming to achieve it in this single lifetime. If one continues to pass the days idly, whose fault will it be? An ancient worthy said: 'If this body is not delivered in this lifetime, in what lifetime will one deliver this body?'
