the holy and wise. Washing for purification and washing the hands each have their standards. If one does not fully understand them, one will conversely soil one's hands. Worshiping, chanting, burning incense, joining palms, and holding objects—at every turn one incurs blame. Can one not be prudent? Now, the ancient regulations are slightly supplemented and abridged. However, minor conducts are indeed difficult to list exhaustively. Generally, in all manner of movements and actions, there are means to guard people's mental faculty; one should naturally infer and expand upon them. Does not the Book say: 'Not minding minor conducts will ultimately encumber great virtue'? How much more so for the class of those who renounce home! I earnestly hope those of high intelligence will exhort later students.
