The three trainings of śīla, samādhi, and prajñā are things inherently possessed within the own-nature of sentient beings; they are not obtained through cultivation and realization. Not only are all buddhas and bodhisattvas fully endowed with them, but all ordinary beings are also completely endowed with them. Own-nature has neither good nor evil, neither upholding nor transgressing: this is the śīla of own-nature. Own-nature has neither stillness nor disturbance, neither grasping nor abandoning: this is the samādhi of own-nature. Own-nature originally has no knowing, yet there is nothing it does not know: this is the prajñā of own-nature. Because buddhas and bodhisattvas know they have them, they obtain their enjoyment and use. Because all ordinary beings do not know they have them, they do not obtain their enjoyment and use. Knowing one has them and not knowing one has them may seem slightly different, yet śīla, samādhi, and prajñā have never differed in the least.
