4.66

First: among the myriad species, a human body is difficult to obtain. As the Tiwei Sūtra says, obtaining a human body now is more difficult than a blind turtle encountering a piece of wood. Second: although obtaining a human body, being born in the central kingdom is difficult; yet this land, situated in the midst of the borderlands, is fully endowed with the sūtras and vinayas of the Mahāyāna Saddharma. Third: although the Saddharma exists, faith and joy in it are further difficult; yet now, according to one's ability, one has faith and dares not doubt or slander. Fourth: a complete human body is difficult to obtain; yet now one has received a male form with no deficient sense faculties and with physical features complete. Fifth: although possessing a male form with the six faculties complete, pravrajyā is extremely difficult when tangled and defiled by the five desires; yet now one is able to sever affection, undergo pravrajyā to cultivate the Way, put on the Buddha's robe, and receive the Buddha's pure precepts. Sixth: although having received the prohibitive precepts, complying with the precepts is extremely difficult; you should respect and delight in, feel shame and conscience for, and prudently guard the vinaya. If you do not observe these six matters, you will immediately become heedless and deeply obstruct the noble path. Having transcended the six difficulties, you should constantly rejoice; what is difficult to obtain has already been obtained, so having obtained it, do not lose it! Reflecting in this manner is called the purified mind.
