The nature of hearing is empty and upholding it is wondrous without peer; / Through reflection and cultivation one suddenly enters samādhi. / The power of unconditioned compassion responds to all capacities, / As the shadow of the bright moon falls upon a thousand streams. / Bhikṣu [So-and-so] bows his head and takes refuge in / the Great Compassionate Father, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. / I look up and pray that with your unobstructed hearing and seeing through others' minds and the eye of the Way, / you will stir great pity and secretly perfume and confer your blessing. / First, I vow that [So-and-so] may early sever the fetters of outflows and swiftly realize non-arising, / with the three karmas completely luminous and the six faculties pure. / Second, I vow that [So-and-so], hearing once, will awaken to a thousand truths and obtain the great dhāraṇī, / fully possessing eloquence and the four unobstructed knowledges; / wherever sacred teachings perfume this mind, / once passing through the ear faculty, they will never be forgotten or lost; / with merit and wisdom adorning this body, / faculty by faculty and dust by dust pervading the dharmadhātu. / Third, I vow that [So-and-so] will seek the fruit of buddhahood above and deliver all beings below, / that brahma-conduct will soon be perfected and the three wheels be empty and quiet, / straight until attaining buddhahood; / and that during the interim, discarding bodies and receiving bodies, / I will constantly be a male, follow the Buddha in pravrajyā, / give rise to bodhicitta, / and have inexhaustible practices and vows to benefit myself and benefit others. / Thereafter, I vow that when my life is about to end, / all obstacles will be entirely eliminated, / I will see that Buddha Amitābha face to face, / and immediately attain rebirth in the Land of Peace and Bliss. / Having been born in that realm, I will fulfill all great vows, / perfect the bodhisattva practices, / and together with all sentient beings attain the Buddha Path.
