Namo to the Lord of the Teachings, Vairocana, Compassionate Honored One of the Lotus Treasury, who expounded the golden text of precious verses and spread the jade scrolls of gem-inlaid cases, wherein every dust mote interpenetrates and every realm is fully fused: the Avataṃsaka Sūtra of the Great and Vast Buddha of the One Vehicle Perfect Teaching, in ten trillion, ninety-five thousand, forty-eight words! 'If one wishes to fully know all Buddhas of the three times, one should contemplate the nature of the dharmadhātu: everything is created by mind alone.' I constantly vow to offer to and reverently respect the Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the seven locations and nine assemblies; I constantly vow to realize, enter, and constantly expound the Avataṃsaka Sūtra of the five cycles and four divisions; I constantly vow to offer without resting to the bodhisattva multitudes numerous as the dust of ninety realms; I constantly vow to awaken to, enter, and constantly expound the Avataṃsaka Sūtra of the Great and Vast Buddha. I humbly pray that I, so-and-so, life after life and world after world, in every place and at every turn, may in my eyes constantly see such a scripture; in my ears constantly hear such a scripture; in my mouth constantly chant such a scripture; in my hands constantly write such a scripture; and in my mind constantly awaken to such a scripture. I vow that life after life and world after world, in every place and at every turn, I may constantly be able to draw close to all the sages and worthies of the Lotus Treasury, and constantly receive the compassionate gathering-in of all the sages and worthies of the Lotus Treasury. Just as expounded in the sūtra, may you all bear witness. May I be like Bodhisattva Sudhana; may I be like Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī; may I be like Bodhisattva Maitreya; may I be like Bodhisattva Samantabhadra; may I be like Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara; may I be like Vairocana Buddha. By the merit of thus praising the scripture, and by the merit of thus making this aspiration, I vow, together with all sentient beings of the four debts, the three realms of existence, and the dharmadhātu, to extinguish the boundless sinful defilements throughout the entire dharmadhātu and space from the beginningless past; I vow, together with all sentient beings of the four debts, the three realms of existence, and the dharmadhātu, to untie the boundless enmity and karmic obstructions throughout the entire dharmadhātu and space from the beginningless past; I vow, together with all sentient beings of the four debts, the three realms of existence, and the dharmadhātu, to gather boundless merit and wisdom throughout the entire dharmadhātu and space from the beginningless past, roaming together in the ocean of ornaments of the Lotus Treasury, and entering together the great bodhimanda. Namo Avataṃsaka Sūtra of the Great and Vast Buddha!
