慈明谷泉瑯瑘三人。結伴參汾陽。時河東苦寒。眾人憚之。慈明志在於道。曉夕不忘。夜坐欲睡。引錐自刺。後嗣汾陽。道風大振。號西河師子。

The three men Ciming, Guquan, and Langye formed a companionship to consult Fenyang. At that time Hedong was bitterly cold, and the assembly shrank back from it. Ciming set his resolve upon the Way, forgetting it neither morning nor evening; when sitting at night and wanting to sleep, he took an awl and pierced himself. Later he succeeded Fenyang, and his style of the Way flourished greatly; he was called the West River Lion.
