伊菴權禪師。用功甚銳。至晚必流涕曰。今日又只恁麼空過。未知來日工夫如何。師在眾。不與人交一言。

Chan Master Yi'an Quan applied his effort with great sharp-edged resolve. Come evening, he would unfailingly shed tears, saying: 'Today has merely passed in vain like this once again; who knows how my practice will go tomorrow?' When dwelling among the assembly, he did not exchange a single word with anyone.
