佛燈珣禪師。依佛鑒。隨眾咨請。邈無所入。嘆曰。此生若不徹證。誓不展被。於是四十九日。只靠露柱立地。如喪考妣。乃得大悟。

Chan Master Fodeng Xun relied on Fojian. He joined the assembly in inquiring for instruction, yet remained completely without entry. He sighed, saying: 'If in this life I do not attain thorough realization, I vow never to spread out my bedding.' Thereupon, for forty-nine days, he merely stood leaning against an exposed pillar, like someone mourning deceased parents, and only then attained great awakening.
