圓悟勤禪師。再參東山演。為侍者。窮參力究。自云。山僧在眾無一時異緣。十年方得打徹。

Chan Master Yuanwu Qin investigated under Dongshan Yan for a second time, serving as his attendant. Investigating exhaustively and delving forcefully, he said of himself: 'While dwelling in the assembly, this mountain monk did not have a single moment of extraneous conditions. Only after ten years did I break through completely.'
