松源岳禪師。初以居士參應菴華。不契。愈自奮勵見密菴傑。隨問隨答。密嘆曰。黃楊木禪耳。奮勵彌切至忘寢食。會密入室問僧。不是心不是佛不是物。師從傍大悟。

Chan Master Songyuan Yue initially investigated under Ying'an Hua as a lay devotee, but did not match. Exerting himself even more vigorously, he visited Mi'an Jie. Meeting every question with an answer, Mi'an sighed and said: 'This is merely boxwood Chan.' His exertion grew even more earnest, until he forgot both sleep and food. It happened that Mi'an entered the room and asked a monk: 'It is not mind, it is not Buddha, it is not a thing.' Standing alongside, the Master attained great awakening.
