佛告舍利弗。彼二菩薩行精進時。於千歲中。未曾一彈指頃被睡眠之所逼惱。於千歲中。未曾起念稱量飲食醎淡美惡。於千歲中。每乞食時。未曾觀授食人為男為女。於千歲中。居止樹下。未曾仰面觀於樹相。於千歲中。未曾緣念親里眷屬。於千歲中。未曾起念我欲剃頭。於千歲中。未曾起念從熱取涼從寒取溫。於千歲中。未曾論說世間無益之語。

The Buddha told Śāriputra: "When those two bodhisattvas practiced vigor, throughout a thousand years they were never troubled by sleep for even the snap of a finger. Throughout a thousand years, they never gave rise to a thought of weighing food and drink as salty or bland, delicious or foul. Throughout a thousand years, whenever begging food, they never observed whether the person giving food was male or female. Throughout a thousand years, dwelling under trees, they never raised their faces to look upon the appearance of the trees. Throughout a thousand years, they never thought of relatives and kin. Throughout a thousand years, they never gave rise to the thought, 'I wish to shave my head.' Throughout a thousand years, they never gave rise to the thought of seeking coolness from heat or seeking warmth from cold. Throughout a thousand years, they never discussed useless worldly talk."
