信有十分。疑有十分。疑有十分。悟有十分。可將平生所見所聞。惡知惡解。奇言妙句。禪道佛法。貢高我慢等心。徹底傾瀉。只就未明未了的公案上。距定脚頭。竪起脊梁。無分晝夜。直得東西不辨南北不分。如有氣的死人相似。心隨境化。觸著還知。自然念慮內忘。心識路絕。忽然打破髑髏。元來不從他得。那時豈不慶快平生者哉。

“With ten parts of faith, there are ten parts of doubt; with ten parts of doubt, there are ten parts of awakening. You may thoroughly pour out all your lifelong views and hear-says, vicious knowledge and vicious understanding, extraordinary words and wondrous phrases, Chan and the Way, Buddha and Dharma, and your proud and arrogant thoughts. Solely upon an unclear, unresolved gongan, plant your feet firmly, straighten your spine, making no distinction between day and night, until you do not differentiate east from west or distinguish north from south, resembling a dead person with breath. The mind transforms along with circumstances, yet when touched, still perceives; naturally, thoughts are inwardly forgotten, and the path of mind and consciousness is cut off. Suddenly breaking through the skull, [you find] it originally did not come from another. At that time, would it not be the great joy of a lifetime?”
