近來篤志參禪者少。纔參箇話頭。便被昏散二魔纏縛。不知昏散與疑情正相對治。信心重則疑情必重。疑情重則昏散自無。

Recently, those who investigate Chan with dedicated resolve are few. No sooner do they investigate a huatou than they are bound by the two demons of torpor and distraction. They do not know that torpor and distraction directly counteract the feeling of doubt: if faith is heavy, the feeling of doubt must be heavy; if the feeling of doubt is heavy, torpor and distraction naturally vanish.
