二六時中。隨話頭而行。隨話頭而住。隨話頭而坐。隨話頭而臥。心如棘栗蓬相似。不被一切人我無明五欲三毒等之所吞噉。行住坐臥。通身是箇疑團。疑來疑去。終日呆樁樁地。聞聲覩色。管取㘞地一聲去在。

During the twelve periods of the day, walk following the huatou, stay following the huatou, sit following the huatou, and lie down following the huatou. Let your mind be like a chestnut burr, not devoured by any self-and-other, ignorance, the five desires, the three poisons, and the like. Walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, let your whole body be a doubt-mass. Doubting back and forth, all day like an immobile wooden post, upon hearing a sound or seeing a form, you can be sure you will go off with a 'huo!' sound.
