2.57

僧祇云。世尊以五事故。五日一按行僧房。一恐弟子著有為事。二恐著俗論。三恐著睡眠。四為看病僧。五令年少比丘觀佛威儀生歡喜故。

The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya states: “The World-Honoured One patrolled the monks' rooms once every five days for five reasons: first, for fear that disciples might become attached to mundane affairs; second, for fear that they might become attached to worldly talk; third, for fear that they might become attached to sleep; fourth, to look after sick monks; and fifth, to cause young monks to observe the Buddha’s dignified deportment and give rise to joy.”
