The storehouse convenes a meeting to arrange hospitality and offerings according to ritual. On the preceding day, the senior administrator goes before the newly appointed abbot, inserts incense, bows, and makes the invitation; next, he goes to the guest quarters to report the invitation to the special envoy, and directs the storehouse guest prefect to invite the two ranks and retired officers to grace the gathering. The modest donations should be according to ritual and must not be treated with disrespect. The spoken words and the performance of rituals are all identical with those for the ritual of special hospitality. In the sleeping hall, a high seat is spread in the centre for the abbot, with the special envoy's seat placed beside it on the right. The two ranks are arranged on the left and right as usual; the retired officers are seated opposite, and the attendants are seated below the administrators. Besides offering hospitality to the servants who welcomed them from afar, rewards and compensations should also be disbursed. Wherever an abbot goes, it often happens that because he is leaving to assume office at another monastery, the monks and postulants harbour long-held resentments and readily engage in slander, spreading it to officials and commoners; thus, on account of a single person's ignorance, an entire monastery incurs a bad reputation. Seasoned and venerable elders, as well as external protectors from neighbouring peaks, should admonish and restrain this. However, for one who serves as abbot, in all matters it is best to leave behind a legacy of affection.
