4.28

朝暮供奉方丈湯藥。左右應接。佐助衣鉢侍者。撫恤近事行僕。或暫缺侍者。客至通覆燒香。或缺人回向。皆宜攝行。須擇年壯謹愿者充之。

Morning and evening, he serves decoctions and medicines to the abbot's quarters, attending to his surroundings, assisting the robe-and-bowl attendant, and caring for personal servants and postulants. If an attendant is temporarily absent, he reports arriving guests and burns incense; or if someone is lacking to make dedications, he should act as deputy. One must choose someone in the prime of life who is cautious and honest to fill this post.
