4.70

住持須預稟露。如有允意。方丈先請茶。兩序光伴即鳴鼓陞座。更不報眾。住持委曲致懇。下座與大眾同伸拜請。鳴鍾送歸寮。茶湯管待禮與前同。進退不混兩序無交代也。

The abbot must inform and reveal it beforehand. If he shows willingness, the abbot's quarters first invites him to tea, with the two ranks gracing [the table] as companions. Thereupon the drum is struck and the abbot ascends the seat, without further notifying the assembly. The abbot expresses his earnestness with utmost courtesy. Descending from the seat, he together with the great assembly extends a bowing invitation. The bell is struck to escort him back to his dormitory. The etiquette of hospitality with tea and hot broth is the same as above. His coming and retirement are not mixed with the two ranks, and there is no handover of office.
