In some places, the abbot does not confer beforehand, but silently selects the persons firmly. He instructs the hall office postulant in advance to call out in the Sangha hall when the morning gruel is finished and the bowls are being hung: "May the great assembly stand a moment to invite the new administrators!" The karmadāna enters before the Sacred Monk, burns incense, and circumambulates the hall once. He comes before the abbot, greets him with folded hands, and stands to the side. The abbot hands him the list of invited persons. Having received it, he greets him face to face with folded hands, passes behind the Sacred Monk, strikes the mallet once, and says: "Notice to the great assembly: just now, receiving the hall head upādhyāya's compassionate directive, So-and-so is invited to serve as such-and-such an administrator." Having announced each one, the attendant bows to invite the new appointees before the abbot to receive office, the rite being the same as before. Meeting for tea in the abbot's quarters and the rite of inviting prefects are both identical to the preceding.
