The moon illuminates the yin essence and rules the night; we depend on its shining. Heaven shows a sign of misfortune to the people below, and thereupon a partial eclipse occurs. Having become both watchful and fearful, we pray and perform apotropaic rituals. Therefore, we respectfully generate a sincere mind and instruct monks to chant sūtras and mantras to extend protection. We hope that the moon's splendor will swiftly be granted the return of its brilliance. We humbly pray that the demonic toad vanish without a trace, that the clear light manifest upon the great earth and mountains and rivers, that the hare live long, and that the myriad forms be contained within the Palace of Vast Cold.
