Fourth Month. On the first day: (The transient quarters are closed. Between the fourth and fifth days, there is the incense announcement and general sermon. On the eighth day:) The Buddha's birthday and the bathing of the Buddha. The monastery storehouse prepares black rice in advance. The abbot's quarters invites the assembly to refreshments before the summer retreat. On the thirteenth day: the Śūraṅgama assembly is established. On the fifteenth day: the retreat is begun (waiting for the weather, in the Sangha hall the warm blinds are lowered and the cool blinds are raised).
