The above four works, totaling fifteen fascicles. In the reign of Emperor Wen, the śramaṇa Baoyun of Liangzhou traveled through the West in his youth. He was skilled in Sanskrit script and language, and completely understood the phonetic pronunciations and exegeses of the various kingdoms of Tianzhu. He later returned to Chang'an and then went to Jiangzuo. Most of the various sūtras translated in his later years were edited and established by Yun. Conversant in both Chinese and foreign languages, his pronunciation and translation were accurate, and all trusted and submitted to his authority. Earlier, within the Passes, there was Zhu Fonian, who was skilled at reciting and translating; he alone held renown across the two eras of the Fu and Yao dynasties, regarded as foremost in grasping authentic texts. In Jiangzuo, when transmitting translations from Sanskrit into Song, none surpassed Yun. At first, he always translated together with Zhiyan. After Zhiyan passed away, Yun later expounded alone. Therefore, not much is recorded here.
