The works above with interlinear notes and sūtra extracts total seventeen works in two hundred and fifty-nine fascicles. They were all compiled and composed in person by Xiao Ziliang, Prince Wenxuan of Jingling and Minister of Works under the Qi, who had a passion for extensive investigation. They were intended for reference and to serve as a record, not for circulating transmission. Later generations of students followed one after another in copying and reading them, and people in the world mixed them up and confused the authentic texts. Therefore, the main outline is presented here in the hope that their origin will be known. Beyond these, there are still over twenty sūtras, all single fascicles; as the texts are numerous, they are not recorded in detail again. However, any text above with the word chao (extract) prefixed to its title belongs to this category. If one examines the categories carefully, the beginning and end will naturally be distinct. See the Sanzang ji and Baochang's catalogue.
