The above single work in one fascicle [was translated by] Dharmaprajñā (rendered in the language of the Sui as Fazhi), the eldest son of the Brāhmaṇa upāsaka Gautama Prajñāruci of the Northern Wei. His lineage had passed down translation work through generations. At the end of the Northern Qi, he served as the Controller of the Clergy (Zhaoxuan Du). When the state of Qi was subjugated, the Buddhadharma was also abolished; Zhi shifted from monastic office to secular office, and was appointed as the Governor of Yangchuan Commandery in Yangzhou. When the Great Sui received the abdication, Sanskrit texts immediately arrived, displaying the revival of the Buddha-sun and manifesting the hidden response to the state's transformation. An imperial decree was issued summoning Zhi back to translate sūtras, which were translated at Daxingshan Monastery. Since Zhi was exceedingly proficient in both the Sui and Sanskrit languages, he held the original text and translated it himself without needing an interpreter. The śramaṇa Shi Zhixuan of Chengdu at Daxingshan Monastery acted as scribe, while arranging the phrasing and the doctrinal principles. The śramaṇa Shi Yancong of Zhao Commandery at Riyan Monastery composed the preface.
