The above three works, totaling seven fascicles. In the twenty-third year of the Yuanjia reign of Emperor Wen of the Song, the bingxu year, which was the seventh year of the Taiping Zhenjun reign of the Northern Wei, Emperor Taiwu trusted and accepted the wicked sycophancy and flattery of Cui Hao, and revered Kou Qianzhi, honoring him as Celestial Master. He harmed the Śākyan lineage and destroyed the stūpas. When it came to the gengyin year, Taiwu fell ill, only then beginning to awaken [to his errors]; furthermore, a White-Footed Dhyāna Master came to enlighten him. Giving rise to shame and repentance, he thereupon executed Cui Hao. Arriving at the renchen year, Emperor Taiwu passed away, and his grandson Wencheng was established. He immediately rebuilt the stūpas and scriptures that had been destroyed, restoring the Three Jewels within seven years. In the third year of the Heping reign, the Director of Buddhist Affairs (Zhaoxuan Tong), the śramaṇa Shi Tanyao, lamented the past suppression and rejoiced in the present revival; hence, he gathered the monastic community in the Stone Grotto Monastery at the Northern Terrace to translate these transmission scriptures and circulate them among later sages, hoping to ensure that the Dharma treasury would be upheld without interruption.
