The above one work, totaling two fascicles. In the reign of Emperor Xiaowu of the Song, the Northern Wei śramaṇa Shi Tanjing composed it at the Northern Terrace. Seeing its text, which says: "Mount Tai in the east is called the Dai Peak in Chinese (Han yan), because yin and yang alternate (jiaodai); hence it is called Dai Peak." Since it was produced in the Wei period, he should only have said "Wei speech"; yet he said "Han speech," failing to distinguish the period—this is the first falsehood. "Mount Tai" is already the local speech here, yet he translated it as "Dai Peak"—translating two [Chinese] terms against one another without knowing Sanskrit from Wei—this is the second falsehood. Such examples are very numerous and cannot be fully described; they are fully contained in the two fascicles. An old catalogue of scriptures separately records a Tiwei jing in one fascicle, which shares the language of the scriptures; Tanjing merely added fifty thousand lines, mixing stone with gold and thereby giving rise to doubt. Now, the one-fascicle version is taken as authoritative.
