During the Zhenghe era of Emperor Huizong, Master Ying of Wuxing first compiled the Zongyuan lu (Record of the Origin of the School), recounting the transmission within the Tiantai school from the Northern Qi down to the Yuanyou era of the present dynasty, and made a diagram linking the lineage of the Way. Thereupon, the patriarchs of the doctrinal lineage could first be clearly investigated. During the Qingyuan era of Emperor Ningzong, Wu Keji (Kai'an) enlarged Ying's record and titled it Shimen zhengtong (Orthodox Lineage of the Śākya Gate), but died before it could circulate. During the Jiading era, Dharma Master Qian (Jing'an) again took Ying's text and Kai'an's new diagram, reedited and arranged them, and added new biographies for over sixty persons, titling it Zongyuan lu (Record of the Source of the School).
