Dharma Master Xingjing and Dharma Master Xingshao were both men of Qiantang. Together they left the household life under Chan Master Shou, thoroughly training in the vinaya texts. They dwelt together at Shibi Temple (twenty li from Hangzhou, to the west of Dragon Mountain). At that time, the Dharma-way of National Preceptor Shao flourished greatly, and they first went to follow him. The National Preceptor, observing that they were vessels of the Dharma, promptly sent them to study the Threefold Contemplation at the seat of Luoxi. After the two masters went together, they investigated the great tenets day and night without rest. Before long, their studies were accomplished, and they then returned to Shibi to lecture and expound for the assembly. For fifty years, before and after, they resolutely maintained the conduct of the mountain forests and never went wandering into villages and neighbourhoods. Senior scholars of the Wu region all submitted to their lofty purity. Song Mingjiao discussed them, saying: "They left home under Master Shou, studied the Dharma under Master Ji, and were recognized and understood by Master Shao. All three were men of extraordinary virtue and uncommon conduct who were unfathomable. That the two masters were both able to personally serve them—is this not magnificent?"
