法師契能。永嘉人。神悟謙公之師。得教旨於昱法師。主天台常寧。講道不倦。自智者而來。以鑪拂傳授為信。至師嫡承為十四代。晚年以授扶宗忠師。扶宗曰。吾得法廣智矣。敢辭。師乃藏之天台道場。遂不復傳。

Dharma Master Qineng was a native of Yongjia and the teacher of Venerable Qian of Shenwu. He obtained the doctrinal tenets from Dharma Master Yu. He presided over Changning in Tiantai, expounding the Way without weariness. Since Zhiyi, the censer and fly-whisk had been transmitted as tokens of faith; coming down to the master as legitimate heir, it was the fourteenth generation. In his late years he offered it to Master Zhong of Fuzong, who said: 'I obtained the Dharma from Guangzhi; I must respectfully decline.' The master thereupon hid it at the Tiantai practice hall, and it was never transmitted again.
