The Dongpo ji states: 'Twenty-one years after the Master passed away, I was exiled to Huizhou. The Master's younger dharma-brother Siyi urged Canliao to ask for a eulogy. I thus wrote a preface to it saying, "When I was in Hangzhou, I dreamed I reached West Lake. There was a great hall with a plaque reading 'Maitreya's Descent.' My late friends Haiyue, Biancai, and their company were all practicing the Path therein. I thereupon composed three quatrains to mourn him, saying: 'Seeking former traces, I reluctantly wet my clothes, / When originally there was no birth, how could death be attained? / Tonight the moon over Master Sheng's lecture hall, / Fills the courtyard as of old, cold as frost.'" (The first of three). Later, Canliao went to the Ying River to visit Ziyou, saying, 'Since Biancai received an inscription from the Master on account of Zizhan, should Haiyue alone be without an inscription?' Ziyou also wrote an inscription for his stupa.
