13.38

述曰。淨覺既屢起破師論。及雪謗之出。而法智已在疾不復辨。於是淨覺自謂已勝。無忌憚矣。不有妙悟。誰能評之。起四明之宗以信後世者。於妙悟功最高。

The commentary states: Jingjue had repeatedly composed treatises to refute his master, and when the Xuebang appeared, Fazhi was already ill and no longer debated. Thereupon, Jingjue considered himself victorious, without any dread or scruple. Had it not been for Miaowu, who could have critiqued him? In reviving the lineage of Siming so that future generations might place their faith in it, Miaowu's merit was the greatest.
