15.47

述曰。智者之為道也。廣大悉備。為其徒者。自尊信之。未足以信於人。惟名儒士夫信而學焉。則其道斯為可信也。智者之世。有徐陵柳顧言。荊溪之世。有梁肅李華。慈雲之時。有王文穆馬亮。明智之時。有晁以道陳瑩中。是數君子。不特知道。又能立言以贊之。智者之道。於是愈有光焉。

The commentary states: As for the way of Zhizhe, it is vast, great, and completely comprehensive. For his disciples to honor and believe in it themselves is not enough to make others believe in it; only when renowned scholars and literati believe in and study it does his way become truly credible. In the time of Zhizhe, there were Xu Ling and Liu Guyan; in the time of Jingxi, there were Liang Su and Li Hua; in the time of Ciyun, there were Wang Wenmu and Ma Liang; in the time of Mingzhi, there were Chao Yidao and Chen Yingzhong. These several gentlemen not only knew the way, but could also compose writings to praise it. The way of Zhizhe thereby became ever more radiant.
