15.53

首座梵章。學惠法師悉通其旨。屢居白蓮座端。講唱有法學者宗尚。謙抑不肯出世人高其風。著圓覺經疏一卷。時稱簡正。

Head Monk Fanzhang studied under Dharma Master Hui and thoroughly mastered his purport. He repeatedly occupied the chief seat at Bailian, expounding and chanting with method, so that students revered him. He was modest and retiring, refusing to assume public office, and people esteemed his high character. He wrote a commentary on the Yuanjue jing in one scroll, which was praised at the time for being concise and correct.
