15.65

述曰。法智之記觀經光明也。當時同宗之輩親炙之徒。如孤山淨覺餙辭抗辨。卒莫能勝。謂之陽擠陰助。猶可為說。至於假名以天資之高德業之美為四明四世孫。當教觀中興後。不思光贊乃祖之功。而反事筆削忍為淨業護國之記。白晝操戈。背宗破祖。自墮山外之侶。可悲也夫。

The commentary states: When Fazhi commented on the *Amitāyurdhyāna-sūtra* and the *Suvarṇaprabhāsa-sūtra*, contemporaries of his school and disciples under his direct instruction, such as Jingjue of Gushan, embellished words to argue against him, yet none could prevail in the end. This can still be explained as 'overtly opposing while covertly assisting'. But as for Jiaming [Ruzhan], with his lofty natural endowment and fine virtuous deeds, being a fourth-generation Dharma descendant of Siming [Fazhi] after the revival of the teachings and contemplations, instead of thinking of glorifying and assisting his ancestor's achievements, he actually engaged in deletions and revisions, having the heart to write the records on *Pure Karma* and *Protecting the Country*. Holding a lance in broad daylight, turning against the school and ruining the patriarch, he cast himself down into the company of the Off-mountain faction. How lamentable!
