16.61

法師利淵。博通三藏。旁貫五經。學富道高。世稱為淵教藏。蚤傳東靈之道。弘法楊尖。聚眾三百日事講演。出入經論莫測涯涘。由是後學多尚泛辨（此卷三十五人本紀遺失十七人）。

Dharma Master Liyuan was thoroughly versed in the Tripiṭaka and broadly conversant with the Five Classics; his learning was profound and his realization lofty, so the world called him 'Yuan the Canon of Teachings.' Early on, he transmitted the Dao of Dongling, propagating the Dharma at Yangjian. He gathered a multitude of three hundred and daily engaged in lecturing and expounding; his mastery of the sūtras and treatises was beyond fathomable measure. From this, later students mostly came to value wide-ranging dialectics. (In this fascicle, of the thirty-five persons, the basic records of seventeen persons are lost.)
