17.42

法師法希號畢菴。法雄號南巖。皆天台人。同入山法師室。服勤受道齊名當世。及相繼居白蓮。道望若一。具正眼以定宗發辯才以駕說。豁襟量以容眾。擒文藻以應機。白蓮宗風之盛。實二師振起之也（此中失法雄法師一人）。

Dharma Master Faxi, styled Bi'an, and Dharma Master Faxiong, styled Nan'yan, were both men of Tiantai. Entering the room of Master Shan together, they rendered diligent service, received the Way, and were of equal fame in their generation. When they successively took charge of Bailian, their standing on the Way was as one. Possessing the correct eye to determine the doctrinal school, developing eloquence to drive discourse, broadening their minds to embrace the multitudes, and wielding literary elegance to respond to varying capacities, the flourishing of the Bailian school's tradition was truly revived by these two masters.
