2.34

三十三年（辛酉）太子在苑射戲。提婆達多。射著一雁。墮於苑中。太子拔箭以酥蜜封瘡。達多遣使來言。宜速見還。太子報言。我已攝受此雁。自我發菩提心來。我皆攝受一切眾生。況復此雁而不屬我。自此與達多結怨相競（佛本行經）。

Thirty-third year (xinyou): The Prince was practicing archery in the park. Devadatta shot a wild goose, which fell into the park. The Prince extracted the arrow and sealed the wound with ghee and honey. Devadatta sent a messenger to say: 'It should be returned to me at once.' The Prince replied: 'I have already embraced this goose. Since I generated the bodhicitta, I have embraced all sentient beings; how much more so should this goose not belong to me?' From this time on, he and Devadatta bore a grudge and contended with each other (Sūtra of the Buddha's Former Deeds).
